Web-Safe flashes on the screen like an abstract painting that constantly keeps changing colour. It consists of different coloured webpages which unfold as an infinite stream in an exact mathematical order. This minimalist piece is informed by the legacy of abstract art.

‘Safe’ web colours

Juha van Ingen’s Web-Safe harks back to the early history of the internet. The title refers to the 216 hex-coded colours that could be reproduced successfully in the early days of web browsing and computing.

Web-Safe consists of webpages whose sole content is their colour. The work poses questions regarding the evolution of internet: shared policies on interoperability are inevitably subject to standardization and social contract.
